Spring Reads

This week’s top five Wednesday topic is all about Spring related books. Spring for me tends to mean a lot of historical fiction and magical realism. Basically anything with flowers, falling in love, or space ships and I’m happy!!! I love Spring! It’s just about the only seasonal change we really get to experience while living in Texas. The bluebonnets start to blossom, I breakout the sun dresses, and lillies start to make an appearance at the front of the church (No pastor, I’m not overcome with emotion, I’m just very allergic to the flora on the altar.) But, the best part of all of this is the books because let’s face it, they are always my favorite topic to discuss!

  1. The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee – This book is a ton of fun! This book follows Monty, Felicity, and Percy on a grand tour around Europe. This book is diverse and features an LGBT+ relationship. I have never laughed as much as I did while I was reading this book. I also recommend picking up the sequel The Ladies Guide to Pirates and Petticoats.
  2. The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan – Magical Realism is genre that doesn’t get enough attention but this book deserves every bit of attention I can give it. The story follows follows Leigh who’s Mom dies and becomes a bird. Leigh follows the bird and visits her maternal grandparents in Taiwan and learns about herself and her Mom along the way.
  3. The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal – I love this book so much! Seriously, I know I throw the word love around a lot when I blog but this one earns. This book follows Dr. Elma York as she endeavors to become one of the first female astronauts in a world that could soon be extinct.
  4. The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle – This story follows Audrey as she goes to her birthday dinner where Audrey Hepburn shows up to give her some advice. This book is magical realism and I really enjoyed the pacing of the book. The book is really short so I can’t tell you much more about it without giving everything away.
  5. Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance by Ruth Emmie Lang – The book follows Weylen and discusses his life from the perspectives of the people who meet him. Weylen has been raised by wolves, can control the weather, and has a magical pig. The story was a fun and unusual adventure into Weylen’s life.

I hope to do more Top 5 Wednesday topics soon! Thank you so much for reading and let me know what you think of the books I mentioned. What is a book you are excited to read this Spring?
