Summary: Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams is a romance following Annie Walker and her goal to become better at romance and relationships. After a failed date, her friend sets her up with a romance tutor, Will Griffin. Will is the Executive Protection Agent (bodyguard) to Amelia, Annie’s best friend and famous musician. In the past Annie has been called, boring, goody two shoes, and Angel Annie by her dates, her family, and the rest of her meddling small town. Will’s history as the “bad boy” outsider makes him an odd prospect to date “good girl” Annie and the whole town bands together to meddle in their relationship, but what they don’t know is that he’s simply her practice person. There’s no actual feelings there . . . or is there? A small town romance with a fun love story Practice Makes Perfect is an adorable read perfect for anyone wanting a sweet summer romance!
So I knew going into this book that I was likely going to love it. From page 1 I felt called out. Annie is known as the goody two shoes, the rule follower, or just boring by most everyone she meets but throughout the story she discovers more about herself through her interactions with Will. When Will becomes her romance tutor, the town she lives in is resistant because they see him as a possible bad influence but when they learn that he truly does want to see her be successful their attitudes change. The story is 1st person dual POV which is one of my favorite ways to read a romance book because I find it fun to put the pieces together before the characters do. The characters felt dynamic and honest without being patronizing which can be difficult in an opposites attract type romance. Annie is a girl who plays by the rules and the author never made her seem like she was being childish or a prude for behaving the way she does. On the opposite side Will wasn’t just the resident bad influence, he was complicated and had a lot of trauma he was dealing with as well.
I don’t think it’s a surprise to say I loved this book and that I definitely recommend it. There were so many moments I found myself questioning how the author found out about my inner thoughts because they were written on the pages in front of me. This is the second book in the series, but I didn’t know that when I picked it up and unless you want to know the story of Noah and Amelia that came before this book you don’t really need it. That being said, I’m going to be reading it at some point. I’m going to be picking up more of Sarah Adam’s books in general because I loved this one so much. If you are a romance reader who isn’t comfortable with sexual content on the page but want some popular contemporary romance than this is the book for you. I found this book via tiktok and it withstands the hype! Overall this was an incredible book and will be going on my favorites shelf because I really loved it!
